Had to get one more apple recipe in before September ends and our entire world becomes all about PUMPKIN! We've been eating apples and honey all week in the spirirt of Rosh Hashanah and will be hosting a birthday dinner for (our!) mom tomorrow, so we searched for a cake to fit all of those needs. We used this NY Times recipe as a base and added our own touches.
Newlywed Note
This is one of those awesome recipes that looks really impressive to serve, but is actually very easy to make. Not to mention, it was a HUGE hit- our guests seriously loved it. Because of the yogurt, the cake ends up having a moist, bread pudding-like consistency. The original recipe didn't call for the extra sliced apples or drizzled honey on top - we added that for decorative (and delicious) purposes.
Served on a cake stand covered with a glass dome, surrounded by ripe, red apples for that full Fall effect.
